A couple of weeks ago, we presented Kaunas in Lithuania as the European Capital of Culture 2022, but another city shares the title: Esch-sur-Alzette in Luxemburg. The second-largest city in the country aims to renew its industrial heritage and culture with more than 160 cultural projects. The keyword here is Remix!
This keyword reflects the will to reinvent the local identity and the numerous aspects of the inhabitants’ lives. All the events take place in a participatory and inclusive framework. They all relate to one of the four sub-themes: Remix Art, Remix Europe, Remix Nature, and Remix Yourself, reflecting the landscape and the extraordinary diversity of people of the southern region of Luxemburg.
Esch 2022 aims to be a micro-example of Europe. It is transnational in involving the city of Esch and the county around it, but also height French municipalities. Finally, it is multicultural by representing the 120 nationalities inhabiting the region with their food, art, and languages.
