The year 2025 promises to be decisive for the European Union, with major political, economic, and diplomatic challenges on the horizon. Here are the key dates to watch in the first half of the year:

January 2025

  • January 1: Start of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union under the motto “Security, Europe!”
  • January 12: Second round of the presidential election in Croatia.
  • January 20: Inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States.
  • January 21: Address by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to the European Parliament on the priorities of the Polish Presidency.

February 2025

  • February 2: Entry into force of the first measures of the Artificial Intelligence Act, strictly regulating the use of artificial intelligence in Europe.
  • February 4: EU-UK Summit in Brussels, focused on post-Brexit relations.
  • February 23: Snap federal elections in Germany to renew the Bundestag.
  • February 24: Third anniversary of the conflict in Ukraine.

March 2025

  • March: The European Commission is set to present new legislative proposals to facilitate deportations as part of efforts to combat irregular migration.

May 2025
