The European Observatory was launched on February 8th 2024 at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. It comprises 5 different themes :
Downtown management, trade, crafts and markets, Logistics and last mile delivery, Culture and animation, Housing and urban life, Urban planning and sustainable mobility.
The European Observatory for downtown management, trade, crafts and markets is co-chaired by by Christian BERAUD, Mayor of Arpajon and Jean-Luc CALONGER, President of TOCEMA’s Administrative board and President of the Belgian AMCV.
Downtown management, trade, crafts and markets are essential for city centers because of their economic, social and cultural advantages. They create employment, generate revenues and serve as social links. Those activities attract visitors, increase the value of properties and better the quality of life by offering dynamic amenities and public spaces. Support for small businesses and local products promotes innovation and sustainability, while strategic planning ensures balanced development and resilience in the face of economic downturns. Overall, they contribute to a dynamic, resilient and attractive urban environment.
